This time we have in our garage Audi A4 with a turbo problem. Due to the lack of services turbocharger in this car gets seized and there was also a problem with blocked feed pipes and oil pickup.

Lack of service

Most common reason for turbocharger premature failure is lack of service. Too long periods between oil change and old, clogged filters. These three simple things can make you wallet few hundreds pounds lighter.

Turbocharger needs a specific environment to give the best performance. Most important thing is OIL – old and tried cannot protect turbocharger adequately. The rotor speed of a conventional turbocharger, in operating conditions, varies between 70,000 – 90,000 rpm. Sometimes, the peak rotation speed can reach 200,000 or more revolutions per minute. High rotational speeds of the shaft (rotor) cause severe friction and heating of the turbocharger parts. To lubricate and cool the turbocharger elements, the engine lubrication system is used.

Also, we plugged in error codes reader and found error code P0234.

Trouble code P0234 indicates the powertrain control module (PCM) senses a dangerously high boost pressure from the engine’s forced induction system. Levels of the boost in excess of recommended levels can compromise the structural integrity of the engine.

Reconditioned Turbocharger

Once old turbocharger is already stripped down we can begin with services. Old oil must be drained, air filter and oil filter must be replaced for new ones. Then we can fill engine with brand new oil. Every gaskets and seals also must be replaced for brand new.

All of these things are necessary to be done to make sure that reconditioned turbocharger will be working in friendly environment.
