Mercedes Vito 2016 1.6dCi Turbo Failure
Hi,
Today we have been visited by Mercedes-Benz Vito from 2016 with 1.6 dCi engine. This van has suddenly lost all his power and was struggling to reach 20mph. We’ve done an inspection and we found that lack of service has killed this turbocharger.
Lack of lubrication
If there is a lack of lubrication within the turbocharger the consequences can be severe. This is one of the most common reasons for failure, a lack of oil in any of the lubricated areas can cause premature failure.
A lack of lubrication can result in catastrophic damage to the bearing systems which can occur within seconds of the turbocharger commencing operation.
Quite simply:
- If oil levels are too low, the turbocharger will fail;
- If the wrong grade of oil is used, the turbocharger will fail;
- If oil becomes contaminated, the turbocharger will fail.

Turbo Reconditioning & Fitting
Along with turbocharger replacement, we drain old engine oil and replace air and oil filters, then we fill the engine with brand new oil. Additionally, we will inspect and clean the breathing system and turbo intercooler.
All of our turbochargers are balanced up to 250,000 RPM on the latest VSR machine. Correctly done balancing is very important for the best performance and long-lasting.
