Range Rover TDv8 4.4 – Both turbochargers reconditioning and replacement WITHOUT lifting the body!

Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Turbo Failure

Last week we were working on this Range Rover with powerful 4.4 TDV8 engine that had a problem with turbochargers. The car lost power and was very sluggish. Also, when you put your foot down it started to smoking white from the exhaust and restricted performance come on the dashboard. These symptoms are related to the turbo problem. We had to do the inspection to confirm what is the condition of turbochargers and if they need to be replaced.

Inspection Results

The inspection took us almost one whole day as there was a lot of digging and looking for potential reasons and failures. After many hours of digging, we found that both turbochargers need to be replaced. Primary turbocharger had mechanical damage and VNT stuck (sticky vanes) and actuator couldn’t operate. Secondary turbocharger started passing the oil on the exhaust side what was the direct reason for white smoke from exhaust and oil loose.

Turbo replacement without lifting the body!

We have developed a special technique that allows us to replace both turbochargers on any Range Rover without touching the body! Our methods are much safer for your Range Rover as we don’t need to disconnect sensors, brakes, electrics etc. So doing it our way is simply better for your car.

Along with turbocharger replacement, we drain old engine oil and replace air and oil filters, then we fill the engine with brand new oil. Additionally, we will inspect and clean the breathing system and turbo intercooler.

All of our turbochargers are balanced up to 250,000 RPM on the latest VSR machine. Correctly done balancing is very important for the best performance and long-lasting.
