Audi A3 2.0 TDI Turbo Failure

This Audi A4 with a 2.0 TDI engine was our guest a few days ago. Car was very sluggish, didn’t pick up the speed as it should. Oil was in such a bad condition so it couldn’t lubricate the turbocharger correctly. This car wasn’t serviced for a long time which was a direct reason for turbo failure. 

Lack of lubrication

If there is a lack of lubrication within the turbocharger the consequences can be severe. This is one of the most common reasons for failure, a lack of oil in any of the lubricated areas can cause premature failure. Which was a reason for failure in this case. 

A lack of lubrication can result in catastrophic damage to the bearing systems which can occur within seconds of the turbocharger commencing operation. 

Quite simply:

• If oil levels are too low, the turbocharger will fail;
• If the wrong grade of oil is used, the turbocharger will fail;
• If oil becomes contaminated, the turbocharger will fail.
