BMW X5 40 dx Turbo Failure

This time we have this nice BMW X5 40 dx with engine N57D30TOP that has bi-turbo system. This car had a problem with whining noise and was smoking from exhaust white smoke.  The owner also noticed that the oil level is going down so he took into our garage. We did a free inspection and confirmed what happened.

Turbo Failure Symptoms

Whining or whistling noise very commonly can be only a boost leak from one of the boost pipes. But this car was smoking very badly whiteish smoke from the exhaust as well. We’ve noticed that there are oil drops on exhaust pipe which indicate that the sealing on the turbocharger may be damaged. When we accessed the turbos we found that the small turbocharger sealing has gone. On the large turbocharger, we found a lot of play on the shaft what was a reason for the noise.

Turbo Reconditioning & Fitting

Along with turbocharger replacement, we drain old engine oil and replace air and oil filters, then we fill the engine with brand new oil. Additionally, we will inspect and clean the breathing system and turbo intercooler.

All of our turbochargers are balanced up to 250,000 RPM on the latest VSR machine. Correctly done balancing is very important for the best performance and long-lasting.
