MERCEDES B-CLASS B180 CDI BLUEEFFICIENCY – WHINING NOISE, LACK OF POWER, ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT
Last Saturday we received the Mercedes B-CLASS with a suspected turbocharger fault.
The vehicle was losing power, the engine management light was on and the whining noise was coming from under the bonnet.
After hours of removing the turbocharger, we found massive damage to the compressor wheel.
A foreign object simply enters the turbocharger through the air inlet or exhaust inlet. When a foreign object enters the turbocharger, its performance will be affected.
Causes of foreign object damage:
Small particles entering through damaged hoses
If the air filter is damaged (or faulty), of low quality or missing, objects will be sucked into the air intake
Debris from a previous turbocharger failure
Broken engine components, e.g. valves or fragments of damaged piston, injector tips
Bolts, nuts, washers, rags or other items left in the intake pipe during servicing
Particles in the exhaust gas e.g. coke from poor combustion
Ice in low-temperature conditions
As the compressor wheel has been damaged and the turbocharger not boosting correctly, the DPF filter got blocked.
We provide DPF cleaning service and if we find the DPF blockage during the turbocharger replacement process we will give you a better price to sort it out!
